One of the great things about going 1x is that you simplify shifting. One shifter is all you need. And this SRAM XX1 Eagle Trigger Shifter is the lightest changer you can find.
A single shifter makes thinking easier, as all you have to do is think up or down, easier or harder. It also lightens up the cockpit. It also cleans up the bars. Fewer cables, fewer things to clamp on. Less to go wrong as well.
SRAM has always been about simplicity. That’s why the shifter can fasten to the bars along with the brake lever and the dropper post, provided they’re from SRAM, Avid, and RockShox. They call it MatchMaker X. By working everything off a single clamp, it’s easier to have everything within easy reach of your most important digit. The shifting point is also adjustable, so it can be tuned to your reach.
The Eagle XX1 is the lightest of the breed. They’ve replaced stainless steel with titanium, forged aluminum with carbon-fiber, and plastic with more carbon fiber. 122g for the shifter. It’s still fully-functioning, with up to five upshifts in a single motion, and downshifts are still lightning fast, though they occur one at a time.
While the external feel remains the same as what you know from SRAM, with X-Actuation and ZeroLoss providing both precise shifting and excellent feel, the internals have been upgraded. The extra cog is set in place on the inside, and that’s the only update to their successful shifter.
The Eagle shifter is only supposed to work as part of an Eagle component ensemble: rear derailleur, cassette, chain, chainring. That’s what SRAM designed for, though you can choose which range of Eagle in which position and the pieces will still work in perfect harmony.
The SRAM XX1 Eagle Trigger Shifter allows you to shift to exactly the gear you want without thinking. It’s an extension of your mind.
