SRAM makes two Eagle twelve-speed cassettes. This is the XG-1295 Cassette. Both are 10-50, both have eleven steel cogs and a single aluminum cog, both have X-Dome cassette design, X-Glide 2 teeth patterns, and mate with an XD Driver body. The difference is that the 1295 has a simple black anodized finish.
Want to discuss range? This cassette has a range like no other. It goes 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 21, 24, 28, 32, 36, 42, 50. Because if this range, you don’t need a front derailleur. That 50-tooth granny gear is your bailout. It should make getting over any wall comprised of loose dirt, scree, mud, roots, whatever, eminently doable.
Underneath the cassette itself is the driver body. As the 10-tooth cog is essential to the huge range that this cassette offers, SRAM needed a way to make current hubs fit that cog. The result was a new cassette body, the XD Driver, which also improves the fit between the body and the cassette. Closer, more precise, less likely to be gouged. Improvement on all fronts. You need a rear hub that has the XD Driver body to work with this cassette. If your hub doesn’t have it, check to see if an XD is available for your hub. Chances are, there is.
Because there are so many cogs, SRAM knew they needed to do something special to keep the package as light as possible. The evolved their X-Dome design to accomplish this. It’s their way of skeletonizing the cogs so they’re as stiff as possible for power transfer, as light as possible for climbing efficiency, and easy for mud and crud to flow through to keep the shifting crisp and both the chain and cogs long-lasting. The first eleven cogs, aka 10-42, are made of steel, while the 50 is made of aluminum. The cassette weighs 355g.
With the cogs as light as possible, SRAM next focused on improving both shifting and chain retention. That’s where X-Glide 2 comes in. These are the ramps and unique tooth profiles which speed up and downshifts without skipping or slipping. One cog to the next, the system moves fast, lifting and dropping and holding like never before.
The SRAM XG-1295 Cassette is designed to work with SRAM Eagle chains and derailleurs.
