Look has been on the track for well over a generation, bringing cutting edge aerodynamics to the banked oval and winning more than their fair share of medals and rainbow jerseys. Their CR 564P sits in the space between their world-class L96 and their traditional AL 464 P, with an aero carbon-fiber frame designed to excel at all velodrome disciplines.
The shaping is derived from the L96, and like the L96, this is a monocoque frame. The fork, downtube, seatpost and seat stays all have elongated airfoil profiles. The seat tube shrouds the rear wheel. The differences have to do with the flexibility of fit in sizing. The steerer tube is a conventionally tapered 1 1/8” to 1 1/2” diameter, allowing you to fit any conventional stem to it, in any rise and reach you need. The carbon-fiber seatpost is a long 350mm, allowing for 150mm of adjustment. And the setback, while a generous 30mm is paired with a relatively steep seat angle. And the bottom bracket standard is a conventional English-threaded central movement, allowing you to mate most cranks to the frame.
Carbon-fiber track frames are typically overbuilt in terms of material. The thinking is that spindly climbers are not taking these bikes, but larger, beefier riders who can torque a frame harder and pour out more watts. The result is that this frame weighs 1700g and the fork 450g. This isn’t light like a climbing bike, but is lighter than many track bikes in its class.
The geometry, likewise, is based on the L96 as well. The seat angle is a bit shallower while the head angle is a bit steeper, making the bike ideal for mass-start events while still stable enough for timed efforts.
As this frameset is built to take more abuse and rough handling from racers who do their own wrenching between racers, the fork tips are a carbon-stainless sandwich, with a carbon base inside and two stainless steel plates on the outside. The rear fork tips are also stainless steel and replaceable.
The Look CR 564P comes as: frame, fork, headset, seatpost, seatpost clamp. And yes, as should be the case with all track bikes, this is UCI-approved.
